“People Don’t Leave Bad Bosses”—Why That’s Only Half the Story

You’ve probably heard the phrase: “People don’t leave jobs, they leave bad bosses.” It’s catchy. It’s popular. And it’s not the full truth.

People don’t leave because of workload.

People don’t leave because of pay.

People don’t leave because of stress.

(Plenty of people stay in demanding, stressful, even underpaid roles when something else is present.)

People leave because they stop growing.

When growth dries up, the job becomes a grind.

When skills stagnate, motivation drops.

When development halts, loyalty goes with it.

And that’s why a coaching culture is the real differentiator.

A coaching culture transforms organisations:

  • It turns work from a chore into a craft.

  • It turns managers into mentors.

  • It turns teams into communities.

  • It turns standards into pride.

  • It turns performance into a shared journey, not a solo struggle.

Good organisations train people.

Great organisations coach people.

Elite organisations build coaching cultures.
